MANILA - It was his impressive start to Coldplay's "The Scientist" that helped 13-year-old Borge Rivera advance to the next round of "The Voice Kids" during the episode aired Saturday.
Rivera, who was pitted against Allina Malaiba and Edera Lopez, had their coach Bamboo Manalac smiling as he sang the first three lines of the song's opening verse for the show's third Battles.
"Sa umpisa pa lang, nung kinanta natin 'to, nagka-goosebumps ako ... Borge, tinutulak mo 'yung style mo. You just kept it nice and cool," Manalac said afterwards.
"Nakapakaganda mong inumpisahan ang isang napakagandang kanta," added coach Sarah Geronimo.
Lea Salonga, who picked Rivera as the best among the three, said that although she was left confused with the song's latter half, she was really impressed with the young singer.
"For me, I had to go back to the start of the song. With very little effort, nakuha na niya ako. Kay Borge ako for this one," she said.
Rivera will now go against Nathan Bautista, Juan Karlos Labajo, and Stacy Pineda in The Sing Offs, after all four managed to win their respective groups.
The young artists -- along with 2 others to be announced -- will perform a solo with a song of his or her choice, which Manalac will then base his decision on who gets to move on to the semi-finals.
