Kris: I didn't mean her harm

MANILA - Kris Aquino on Thursday took to her primetime talk show to publicly apologize to Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, who became the target of criticisms online after the TV host shared a photo of a dedication card from the screen veteran containing errors in spelling.

During the live telecast of "Aquino & Abunda Tonight," Aquino said she is offended by insinuations that she posted the photo on her Instagram page with malice.

"Ako, I take offense doon sa nagsasabi na I meant her harm by posting that. I didn't. You know I'm a fan, you know I'm a Vilmanian," she said.

The dedication card, which was attached to a box of ensaymada given to Aquino by Santos, read: "Dearest Kris, Thank you sooo much for believing in me! I truely [sic] appreciate it friend... Life is short... Enjoy it - you are so bless [sic]... God is good. Smile :) - Ate Vi"

"It did not bother me," Aquino said of the mistakes in speling. "Ako po 'yung recipient ng card. Kung ako, noong binabasa ko, hindi ko tsinek, hindi ako nagpaka-English teacher doon sa card na 'yon... What touched me was the honesty, the sincerity, the genuine kindness that she showed me."

A day after Aquino posted the photo last Tuesday, Santos informed her through a text message that she is "being bashed because of your instagram post."

"I guess marami pa akong dapat matutunan. I take all of these as constructive criticisms. Tao lang; nagkakamali. Sa mga bashers… Salamat po. Again, thanks for believing in me. Until next time," the message read.

Referring to the "bashers" who took to social media to criticize Santos over spelling errors, Aquino said, "Ang mali ko doon, 'di ba, I forgot that I do have one million followers on Instagram."

"Now, I realize also na my good intentions of showing my appreciation to her can be taken the wrong way," she added.

Sharing his view on the matter, Aquino's co-host Boy Abunda referred to Santos' humility "as greatness and wisdom."

"And that is more important than grammar," he said.

Aquino added: "I love you, Ate Vi. I apologize, Ate Vi, doon sa stress na binigay nito sa'yo, pero sinabi ko nga, 'You're too blessed to be stressed.'"

Santos earlier told ABS-CBN News that she would rather focus on work, when asked to react on Wednesday to her critics online.

In a text message, she said: "Maliit na issue .. Napalaki lang !! Ok lang yan !! Honest mistake !! Hehe ! Tomorrow is another day !! :)) Trabaho lang ako at importante yun ...salamat !!"
