MANILA – Kapamilya stars Maja Salvador and Jake Cuenca are happy to be reunited in a project – this time as a love team.

Salvador and Cuenca will headline the upcoming movie “Status: It’s Complicated,” which will be produced by Regal Films under the direction of Chris Martinez.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Salvador said she feels privileged to be chosen to be Cuenca's leading lady.

“Ngayon siyempre at least nagkaroon ako ng chance na maka-partner naman si Jake. Sa dami ng mga hottest stars ngayon, siyempre maswerte ako na makapareha niya. Mas nakaka-excite kasi love story naman ang gagawin namin ni Jake,” she said.

Salvador and Cuenca first worked together in the fantasy series “Da Adventures of Pedro Penduko" which was shown in ABS-CBN back in 2006.

Their last project together was “Villa Estrella,” a horror movie released in theaters in 2009.

“Matagal na kaming magkaibigan. May ginawa kaming movie, hindi naman kami mag-partner. Excited ako. I’m honored to be her leading man,” Cuenca said.

Both stars have started shooting the movie, which will also feature Paulo Avelino, Solenn Heussaff and Eugene Domingo.

Asked how she feels to work with Heussaff, Salvador said: “Iyon naman ang maganda sa atin. Nakaktrabaho natin 'yung ibang artista kahit sa ibang network.”

Heussaff has appeared in several TV projects for a rival network.

“Mas nakaka-excite gumawa ng pelikula kapag 'yung makakasama mo hindi 'yung palagi [mong nakakasama]. 'Yung meron namang panibago. Pinapanood mo lang sa ibang istasyon, makakasama mo na,” added Salvador.

According to Martinez, “Status: It’s Complicated” is inspired by the original Ishmael Bernal film “Salawahan.”

“It’s about relationship, courtship. Napapanahon pa rin siya. Ginawa namin mas hip, mas contemporary. Siyempre iba na ang mga artista, mas masaya, mas modern,” he said.

Martinez said Salvador’s role was originally portrayed by Rio Locsin, while Cuenca’s character was first played by Matt Ranillo. – from a report by Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
