Veteran performer Gary Valenciano

MANILA -- Veteran performer Gary Valenciano expressed his support for his youngest son Gabriel Valenciano who has backed out from the hit reality show "America's Got Talent."

"I understood kasi 'yung stand niya apparently may mga rules and regulations na hindi niya alam tungkol sa America's Got Talent.' 'Yung tipong paglabas mo, kung ano 'yung ipinakita mo sa una 'yun at 'yun na lang ang ipapakita mo sa iba't ibang klaseng dating," he said in an interview Tuesday during the press conference for the repeat of his "Arise," which will be held on August 2 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

"So sabi niya sa akin, 'Dad, ayaw ko naman maging isang artista na nakilala lang dahil sa isang super selfie. Hindi pwedeng gagawin kong life, na palaging ganoon na 'yun at 'yun lang ang makikita ng mga tao, walang pagbabago.' So I understood that," Gary told and other reporters.

In a recent interview with ABS-CBN News, Gab said he decided not to pursue the talent contest because “permanent opportunities” came his way despite initially auditioning for the hit TV show/

Gab to settle down next year

Meanwhile, Valenciano also revealed that Gab is getting married to girlfriend Tricia Centenera next year.

"Akala ko maghihintay pa ako ng ilang taon bago mangyari ang pagkasal ng pangalawang anak ko. But you know Gab has gone through a lot in life and he has learned a lot also and he is still learning. I think he has found a precious soul in the person who herself has gone through a lot also, kaya sila nagkakaintindihan," the elder Valenciano said.

"Ako when I see my son happy, I am happy. When I see the person that he has, I am happy. So I can only say that I take it as it is as it comes," he said.

Asked if he approves of Centenera for his son, Gary replied: "I certainly do. Nakilala ko 'yung pamilya niya at, grabe. very much like our family, very open, very down to earth. I'm leaving for Australia (Wednesday) and they are all from Australia so they are all going to watch the concert."

Valenciano will be having a concert in Australia on July 5.
