Television host Kris Aquino
MANILA – Television host Kris Aquino weighed in on the supposed "lavish" lifestyle of Senator Jinggoy Estrada’s son Jolo amid the pork barrel scam controversy.
Speaking on “The Buzz” on Sunday, Aquino said she could not speak on behalf of Jolo because she does not know him too well.
But she can attest to the simplicity of Estrada’s daughter Janella.
“Janella is my inaanak. Wala akong nakita sa kanyang karangyaan. She’s a councilor in San Juan, she’s the daughter of Jinggoy and Precy and, in fact, several times niya ako dinalaw sa set. Simple ang sasakyan at simpleng manumit and siguro because nga pulitika na siya. Marunong makisama, nagdala ng merienda,” she said.
“Hindi ko masyadong kilala 'yung brothers niya and hindi ako makaka-comment sa mga posts nila. Pero doon sa kakilala kong anak nila, gusto ko 'yung pagpapalaki sa kanya kasi makatao siya,” she added.
Last week, several netizens compared Jolo’s alleged Instagram posts – which showed him wearing Louis Vuitton shoes, staying in a presidential suite at the Manila Hotel, and riding a private jet – to that of Jeane Napoles, the daughter of alleged pork barrel mastermind Janet Lim Napoles.
Last year, Jeane caught the attention of Filipino Internet users after flaunting some of her pricey possessions, from a Porsche Boxter and a Ritz Carlton condominium to Hublot and Chanel watches.
Pep.ph, however, reported that Jolo is maintaining a different Instagram account, noting that the controversial photos may have been posted by a “hater.”
Former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada also came to the defense of his grandson saying Jolo can easily afford to buy Louis Vuitton shoes, citing his grandson’s projects as an actor.
Meanwhile, Aquino also touched on the topic about Jolo’s diplomatic passport, which was the subject of a viral blog post that came out after Estrada’s surrender and subsequent detention at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center.
“When my mom was president and she did bring me on official trips, nakagamit ako ng diplomatic passport. Nung sinamahan ko siya nung nag-Washington kami, dinala niya ako sa Japan and sa Europe. But I had another passport for the times na hindi ko siya kasama kasi hindi tama na gagamitin mo kung hindi dahil sa official na dahilan,” she said.
Aquino said she was given a diplomatic passport then because she was still a minor and was unmarried.
Now that her brother is the President of the Philippines, Aquino stressed that she no longer has a diplomatic passport, and that the President also does not want her or any of their siblings to join him on any official trip.
“Ilang times kami na mga kapatid niya in-invite to join him. His stand has always been, ‘Kapatid ko lang kayo, dagdag gastos. Maiwan na lang kayo dito.’ So none of us now have a diplomatic passport because none of us have joined him on any official trips. There was once, kasi si First Lady ng Malaysia friend ko, sabi ko, ‘Noy, she called me. Ako na magbabayad.’ Sabi niya, ‘Huwag na. Iwan na lang,’” she revealed.
