MANILA, Philippines - Actress Kim Chiu said she is proud of her celebrity friend, Maja Salvador, who recently won a Best Actress trophy from the 35th Gawad Urian for her indie film "Thelma."
"Siyempre nakaka-proud and sobrang 'wow, best actress!' Parang ganoon. So happy ako sa achievement niya at syempre deserve niya 'yon sa dinami-dami ng pinapakita niyang acting eh deserve niya naman yon," she said.
Chiu said she also dreams of winning a Best Actress award, just like Salvador.
"Oo naman," she said.
But she was quick to add that she still has a long way to go. "Pero mas deserve niya (Salvador) kasi nag-aaral pa ako, artista na siya. Idol ko siya dati. Nasa audition tape ko 'yon, at ngayon, friends na kami at magkasama kami," she said.
Salvador, meanwhile, has nothing but good words for Chiu, saying that the "Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition" winner has earned a number of awards and nominations over the past years.
"Actually, maraming acting awards si Kim. At kung hindi man kami laging manalo ng Best Actress award, happy na kami na nano-nominate kami," she said.
Chiu and Salvador will be working together in the ABS-CBN series "Ina, Kapatid, Anak."
According to Salvador, audiences will see a different Kim Chiu in the upcoming soap.
"Dito sa teleserye namin, ibang Kim, mas mature na Kim ang makikita niyo. Kasi hindi na sweet at tweetums na Kim Chiu, iba na. Kaya dapat makita niyo ang ibang Kim Chiu dito sa bagong soap," she said.
Asked if they have become best friends on the set, Salvador simply said: "Hindi namin naiisip na 'best friends tayo,' parang hindi namin alam kung hanggang saan ba ang alam namin sa isa't isa. Pero kunwari kung may problema at may kailangan, 'yung nandiyan kami palagi sa isa't isa."
