MANILA – Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 science fiction monster film “Pacific Rim” is getting a sequel which will be released in 2017.
Variety.com reported that “Pacific Rim 2” is scheduled for release on April 7, 2017.
In a video posted on YouTube, del Toro said he and Zak Penn will write the script for the new movie.
It was not mentioned if the actors in “Pacific Rim” – Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Robert Kazinsky – will reprise their roles in the sequel.
Aside from “Pacific Rim 2,” del Toro is also working on the horror film “Crimson Peak” starring Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska, which will be released in October 2015, according to The Verge.
Manila was featured in “Pacific Rim,” a movie about robots (jaegers) battling giant monsters (kaiju).
