MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - Comedy king Dolphy continues to show signs of recovery from his life-threatening illness, telling his partner Zsa Zsa Padilla and his children that he loves them.

Actor-director Eric Quizon, one of the sons of the veteran comedian, told ABS-CBN News in a text message Wednesday that their family is  elated with the progress of his father's recovery.

"Now he tries to communicate even if we can't hear him," he said.

"He said I love you to Zsa Zsa and my sisters," he added. "Of course this is lip reading."

"He also asked for water," Quizon said.

Dolphy has recovered from pneumonia, his 11th in 11 months, and is now showing increasing signs of lucidity, according to an executive of the Makati Medical Center (MMC).

In the latest medical bulletin on the actor's condition released on Wednesday afternoon, Dr. Eric Nubla, director of the MMC's patient relations, said Dolphy still has "some infection in his system."

"[Dolphy] is lucid, he answers back by nodding his head, raises his eyebrows, lifts his hands minimally, and winces and grimaces. He squeezes family members' hands and tries to mouth words and smile," Nubla said.

"He has been cleared of pneumonia, but continues to remain to have some infection in his system," the doctor added.

Dolphy also continues to be in need of blood transfusions and continues to undergo dialysis, according to Nubla.

"He needs blood transfusions, which he gets. As of this time (announcement of medical bulletin), he is undergoing dialysis," Nubla said.

While Dolphy is showing improvements in his condition, he is still unable to speak because of tracheostomy, which was performed over the weekend.

"These are all good signs. However, because of the tracheostomy, he is unable to speak," Nubla said.

As he remains in the intensive care unit of MMC, Dolphy continues to be visited by family members and friends from the entertainment industry. - with a report from Ryan Chua, ABS-CBN News
