MANILA - Ai Ai delas Alas will join onscreen partners Kim Chiu and Xian Lim in a comedy film teased by the screen veteran as "the first of its kind in the Philippines."
The project with the working title "Past Tense" was announced on Thursday by producer Star Cinema. Mae Cruz, who helmed Lim and Chiu's recent blockbuster "Bride for Rent," will direct the movie.
While the cast members did not divulge details of the story, delas Alas said it will feature "some sort of love triangle," presumably involving her, Lim, and Chiu.
"Alam mo, I think, ito 'yung first in the Philippines na story, so kailangan niyo ito panoorin, kasi kakaiba talaga siya," delas Alas told reporters shortly after a story conference for the project. Sa buong career ko, wala pa akong napanood na ganitong story."
Delas Alas, who is dubbed local showbiz's "Comedy Queen," expressed excitement over returning to her signature genre.
She is currently seen in the primetime series "Dyesebel," wherein she plays the adoptive mom of the titular character portrayed by Anne Curtis.
"Excited ako kasi siguro naman nakikita niyo, every day, iyak ako nang iyak sa telebisyon. Finally, nakakatuwa, modesty aside, tinatawag nila akong 'Comedy Queen,' tapos iyak ako nang iyak. Sabi ko, 'Ako lang ata ang comedy queen na iyak nang iyak,'" she said, laughing.
"This is home. Parang, 'Wow! Ito na, may comedy film na ulit ako.' Ito na, excited na excited ako," the actress added.
The movie marks the second time she will co-star with both Lim and Chiu. Delas Alas played the young actress' mom in the 2011 TV series "My Binondo Girl," which launched the tandem of Chiu and Lim.
"Masaya at excited ako at alam naman natin na tested na ang samahan nung dalawa. Magandang combination," delas Alas said of her co-stars.
According to delas Alas, shooting for "Past Tense" will start in July. A premiere date has yet to be announced by Star Cinema.
