'MMK' episode on teen rape gets MTRCB okay

Former “Goin’ Bulilit” child star Jane Oineza plays a rape victim in a controversial episode of 'MMK'

MANILA, Philippines -- ABS-CBN was finally given the go-signal by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to air a controversial “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode that deals with the rape of a minor.

The episode, based on the true story of a teenage girl who was repeatedly raped, once even with the help of her own mother, will air this Saturday, June 30.

The MTRCB previously slapped an X-rating on the episode, entitled "Cursed Beauty," which was originally slated for airing on June 2.

It now has a rating of "SPG" or "strong parental guidance" after being thoroughly reviewed by the agency .

Former “Goin’ Bulilit” child star Jane Oineza portrays 15-year-old Nene who was repeatedly raped by her stepfather. But her world drastically changed when her mother even assisted her live-in partner in the rape.

Also appearing in the controversial episode are Angel Aquino, Carlos Morales, RS Francisco, Vangie Labalan, Ana Abad Santos, Archie Alemania, Gerald Madrid, Jacko Benin, Kyline Alcantara, Liz Alindogan, Jesette Prospero, Minco Fabregas, and Elaine Quemuel.

It was researched by Mae Rose Balanay, written by Benson Logronio, and directed by Nuel Naval.

“Maalaala Mo Kaya” airs Saturdays after “Wansapanataym” on ABS-CBN.
