MANILA, Philippines -- Actress Iza Calzado admitted that during her bout with obesity in her younger years, she turned to cosmetic surgery to surpass the challenge of being overweight.

In an interview on "Showbiz Inside Report" that aired Saturday, Calzado said her parents' rift triggered her unhealthy lifestyle, which led her to becoming obese at one point.
"To be perfectly honest, I started gaining weight when things started to get very messy at home," she said.
"[Pag nakukumpara ko sarili ko sa] mga kaklase ko, people, nakakalungkot talaga, pero hindi ko talaga matigilan noon ang pagkain," Calzado added.
Her overeating would eventually lead her to weighing "around 215 to 220 pounds" at Grade 2.
Calzado said she sought various solutions to her being overweight -- even turning to cosmetic surgery -- before making a substantial change in her lifestyle and eating habits.
"I never consulted with a nutritionist, but I experimented. At some point, I tried cosmetic surgery.
"But I can't keep doing this, and then suddenly I met people na nakatulong sa'kin sa pagpapapayat ko. I started running, I started working out and eating smarter," Calzado said.
Nowadays, Calzado boasts a slimmer figure, in part owing also to her being a dancer.
The actress, who recently transferred to ABS-CBN, is set to star in her very first TV series with the Kapamilya network.
Calzado will topbill "Kahit Puso'y Masugatan" alongside actress Andi Eigenmann, and actors Gabby Concepcion and Jake Cuenca.
The soap is set to air on primetime later this year.
