MANILA, Philippines – Actress Snooky Serna said comedy king Dolphy was able to open his eyes when she visited him at the hospital on Friday.
Serna said it was a big improvement for the ailing actor, who is still confined at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Makati Medical Center.
“Tito Dolphy opened his eyes today. That’s a big sign of improvement. He’s still in the ICU but things are getting better, things are looking up. ‘Yung pagdilat lang ng mata ng ating comedy king is a big thing,” she told ABC-CBN’s “Bandila.”
Serna, who played the role of Dolphy’s daughter in several films in the 1980s, said she felt overwhelmed when she saw the outpouring of support for the country’s king of comedy.
However, the actress said she also felt “deep sadness” after seeing Dolphy’s condition in the ICU.
“I felt so overwhelmed. Mixed emotion na eh. Overwhelming ‘yung pagpapakita ng pagmamahal and at the same time overwhelming ‘yung seeing him in this situation. I felt deep sadness,” she said.
Serna said Dolphy and his partner Zsa Zsa Padilla have always been there for her when she needed them.
“Naging parte si Dolphy and Zsa Zsa ng life ko and it was always at the lowest point of my life and you don’t expect them to be the people to reach out,” she said.
Dolphy was diagnosed with pneumonia on both lungs, according to his son Eric Quizon.
He was brought to the hospital nearly two weeks ago also due to pneumonia.
The veteran actor is suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which hinders the flow of air to the lungs.
