Alice Smith, the mother of Dolphy's children Ronnie, Eric, Madonna, and Epi, has released a statement thanking the supporters of her former partner as he remains in critical condition at the Makati Medical Center.
In the statement, Smith also joined calls for continued prayers for the King of Comedy, and thanked Padilla, the current partner of Dolphy, for "not letting go" in spite of the screen legend's ailing state.
"We the family will forever be grateful for the overwhelming support and prayers that you have given Dolphy.
Smith, who in the '60s was known on-screen as Pamela Ponti, is currently based in Vallejo, California, where she runs a popular Filipino restaurant, Pinoy/Pinay.
The former actress appealed for understanding as she is unable to return to the Philippines to be at Dolphy's side.
"Alam niyo naman ang buhay sa Amerika, you cannot just leave your work.
Dolphy and Smith's son Eric on Friday morning said that the King of Comedy's condition, while improving, is still critical.
On Thursday, Quizon confirmed that his father underwent dialysis to help his weakened kidneys.
It was last week that Dolphy was rushed to hospital due to pneumonia.
On Wednesday, Quizon revealed that his father has been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which hinders the flow of air to the lungs.
The condition is generally permanent and may be progressive over time. Because of Dolphy’s medications, his illness caused a complication, causing his kidneys to fail.
