MANILA - Coco Martin said he is happy for his "Maybe This Time" co-star Sarah Geronimo after she finally admitted on Thursday that she is in a relationship with Matteo Guidicelli, with whom he had a controversial brawl in 2011.
Geronimo made the confirmation on the sidelines of a thanksgiving party for "Maybe This Time," almost a year after she and Guidicelli were first romantically linked.
Martin, who was also Geronimo's leading man in the 2010 TV musical "1DOL," was asked for his reaction to the pop star's candid admission at the same event.
"Siyempre masaya. Kumbaga, panahon na. Nasa right age na siya. Kumbaga, napakabait nila parehong tao. Kung saan masaya si Sarah, deserve niya 'yan," Martin said.
"Sobrang hardworking niyang tao, e, mapagmahal sa pamilya, lalung-lalo na sa mga fans niya. This time, para sa akin, siyempre dapat paligayahin niya naman ang puso niya," he added.
The "Ikaw Lamang" actor and Guidicelli figured in a fist fight in 2011 during the annual Star Magic Ball. Actress Maja Salvador, Guidicelli's girlfriend at the time, tearfully admitted in a live interview that she was the cause of the brawl.
When the controversy erupted, Salvador and Martin had been co-starring in the ABS-CBN drama series "Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin."
Guidicelli publicly apologized to Martin on the now-defunct noontime show "Happy Yipee Yehey," only days after the fist fight. The two reconciled a year later at the 2012 Star Magic Ball, where they were seen exchanging hugs.
Asked if he was clued in on Geronimo's relationship with Guidicelli during filming for "Maybe This Time," Martin said he did notice that his leading lady had a certain "glow" to her.
"Basta ang alam ko lang, pag nag-su-shooting kami, talagang ang alam ko, inspired siya. Nakikita ko ang ngiti sa mata niya. Siyempre, artista kami. Nakikita namin 'yung glow, e," he said.
Martin added: "Nakakatuwa. Kung anuman ang meron niya ngayon, kung ano man ang blessing niya, deserve niya 'yon, dahil napakabuti niyang tao."
