MANILA, Philippines -- Actor Matteo Guidicelli said not being mentioned in his girlfriend actress Maja Salvador's acceptance speech at the Urian Awards is not an issue for either of them.

Maja Salvador emotionally accepts her first Best Actress award

During her emotional speech after winning Best Actress at last week's 35th Gawad Urian Awards, Salvador failed to mention Guidicelli, her current boyfriend, even as she thanked her supporters -- a matter that has fueled rumors of a supposed rift betweent the two.

Guidicelli on Tuesday told ABS-CBN News that this is not the case, saying he didn't feel slighted by the omission.

"Hindi naman problema 'yun para sa'kin eh. I know her emotions -- shocked. Kasi hindi siya naniniwala kahit nung tinawag na 'yung pangalan niya eh, so parang nabigla siya. I'm very, very proud of her," he said.

While Salvador was surprised to have been named Best Actress, Guidicelli said his girlfriend "really deserved" the award. Salvador, he said, worked hard to prepare for her role in "Thelma," and had always dreamed to be recognized for her acting.

"I think she really, really deserved it. She really prepared, she trained as a runner, and she gave her 110%. I'm very, very happy for her," he said.

"She's been wanting this, 10 years in showbiz. It's her first Urian. She's been telling me, 'Matteo this is Urian, this is like the number one thing!' And she's very proud, and I'm happy for her," Guidicelli added.

Guidicelli also recounted the night Salvador received her award. Although he wasn't around to witness her victory -- he was in Cebu at the time -- they immediately spoke to each other following the news.

"[Nag-usap kami] agad, sobrang saya ko po para sa kanya. Afterwards she called me right away, [saying,] 'I won, I won!' She sent me pictures," he said.

Asked if he feels pressured to keep up with the achievements of his girlfriend, Guidicelli said: "I don't think about that. If it comes, then it comes. If it comes, wow, it's a big a blessing. I'll just continue to give my best and do different things."

To this end, the actor also expressed interest in starring in an independent film.

"I would love to do an indie film. That's what I told my handler. Sana, I would love to do one," he said.

While he waits for an indie film offer to come along, Guidicelli will be busy juggling two projects on television.

The 22-year old actor is set to star in upcoming series "Precious Hearts Romances: Isla" and will do hosting duties for the kiddie talent search "Promil Pre-Shool: i-Shine Talent Camp."

Going sexy

For "Isla," Guidicelli said he has prepared extensively for his character Brennan, a married businessman who gets stranded on an island with a perfect stranger, Yani (Jessy Mendiola), after getting shipwrecked.

Since the bulk of the show's story will be set on an island -- the cast will be shooting in Caramoan Islands in Camarines Sur -- Guidicelli said he prepared himself physically [link to related article] for the sexy scenes of the "Precious Hearts Romances" series.

"'PHR' is romance. Direk Connie [Macatuno] wanted me to add more sex appeal I guess, so sana na-achieve ko," he said.

Craft of hosting

For "i-Shine," Guidicelli will be hosting alongside actress Dimple Romana and actor Xian Lim. The talent search, he said, is an opportunity for him to better his craft as a host.

He was among the hosts in the defunct noontime variety show "Happy Yippie Yehey."

"[Hosting] is a craft I really love. It started off in 'Happy Yippie Yehey.' I was inspired by my co-hosts, all of them. I was so inspired, I wanted to be a host. So much to learn. It's another venue for me to learn and become a host," he said.

Joining Guidicelli and Mendiola in "Precious Hearts Romances: Isla" are actor Matt Evans, who will play Justin, Yani's bestfriend; and actress Jewel Mische, who will portray Megan, Justin's dedicated wife.

Directed by Nico Hernandez and Connie Macatuno, "Isla" is slated for a release later this year.

"i-Shine," meanwhile, is scheduled to premiere on June 23, and will air every Saturday on ABS-CBN.
