MANILA – Movie icon Tony Ferrer, best known for his unforgettable role as Agent X44, turned 80 years old on Thursday.
Still wearing his trademark white suit and glasses, an emotional Ferrer thanked his daughters Maricel Laxa Pangilinan and Mutya Laxa Buensuceso at his party. which was also attended by his former partner, Imelda Ilanan, the mother of Maricel, as well as his former leading lady Divina Valencia.
During the celebration, Mutya tearfully sang “In My Life” as Ferrer watched clips of his old movies.
The party was also an early gift for Father’s Day.
Dubbed as the James Bond of the Philippines, Ferrer starred in a string of action thrillers in the '60s and '70s that also featured anti-crime gadgets, which mimicked the Bond movies.
Star Cinema and Vhong Navarro paid tribute to Ferrer in 2007 with the comedy "Agent X44," with the "It's Showtime" host playing in the iconic role. -- Report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
