MANILA - Veteran actress Cherie Gil, dubbed as the Philippines' "primera contravida," is no longer part of ABS-CBN's hit series "Ikaw Lamang."

This after Gil's character, Miranda, died after she was accidentally shot by her father, Maximo (Ronaldo Valdez), during the series' Wednesday episode.

Miranda's death came after she tried to save Maximo from the ambush plan of Gonzalo (John Estrada) and Paquito (Ronnie Lazaro).

On the microblogging site Twitter, several netizens mourned the death of Miranda.

"Mataas ang rating tonight of #IkawLamangLifeAndDeath galing ng mga cast especially Cherie Gil galing umarte just like Kim chiu," Twitter user JaniceChed said.

"Grabe. Intense ang #ikawlamang .. The kind of teleserye na ayaw kong may karakter na mawala. The Great Ms. Cherie Gil is a big loss!" @imsoharvyn tweeted.

"Thank you, Ms. Cherie Gil for your great contribution in #IkawLamang. You will be missed. #IkawLamangLifeAndDeath," Dreamscape publicity head Eric John Salut wrote.

On Instagram, Gil posted a photo of her and the cast of "Ikaw Lamang" with the caption: "This is a truly happy set. Best team I've worked with on a soap #ikawlamang #happyhappy."

"Ikaw Lamang" stars Coco Martin, Kim Chiu, Julia Montes and Jake Cuenca. It airs weeknights after "Dyesebel" as part of ABS-CBN's primetime block.
