MANILA – Numerous netizens lauded Angel Locsin when she personally visited Marawi City to hand out food packs and school supplies to those affected by the clash between government troops and Islamist rebels.
However, there were also some who questioned the actress’ sincerity for going there, with some saying she should have done it without any form of media coverage.
Film producer Neil Arce, who is reportedly dating Locsin, quickly came to her defense.
Through a Facebook post, Arce expressed disappointment over how some netizens made that conclusion even without knowing all the facts.
“I just read someone's post here on Facebook sabi, ‘When you do charity, do it quietly.’ Saw the comments section as well, ang dami nilang alam,” he said.
“The person you are talking about went to the most dangerous area in the Philippines unannounced and without bodyguards or even government supervision. She risked her life just to help our countrymen. Media picked it up on her 2nd day there hindi po yun pinatawag and hindi pinlano,” he added.
Arce said Locsin spent her own money for her visit and that she “wanted to do it as quietly as possible.”
The film producer then called those people who do nothing but bash other people “scum.”
“What have you done to help? What have you done to inspire people to help? Pati yung mga nagco-comment puro press pa kayo bring it on sulat niyo na ko ng masama wala akong paki! I know there are still good people out there but you people bashing people who are just trying to help others, you are scum,” he said.
Last Friday, Locsin visited a temporary refuge camp that houses 283 individuals along with charity group Rural Missionaries of the Philippines. She also reportedly visited another evacuation center on Saturday.
