MANILA, Philippines - Out in theaters right now is “Boy Pick Up: The Movie,” which started as a sketch on the gag show "Bubble Gang."
In the movie, the struggling Boy (Ogie Alcasid) lands a job as a baker in Heaven's Bakeshop owned by his crush Angel (Solenn Heussaff).
But life for Boy takes a turn for the worse when Bagwis (Dennis Trillo) enters the picture after he is left at the altar by his supposed bride because of Boy.
Bagwis plots his revenge with the help of Dahon (Antonio Aquitania) to destroy Boy. He takes Boy's precious possessions including his job and pet fish Goldy. For his final blow, Bagwis tries to seduce Angel while Boy is competing in a “pick up” battle. Losing his concentration, Boy is defeated by Bagwis.
Humiliated, Boy decides to stay away from Angel and the Pikapistas (people who do pick-up lines).
But with the help of his master (rock icon Joey "Pepe" Smith), he regains his confidence and returns to the “pick up” arena to face Bagwis once and for all.
No doubt, Alcasid has mastered the role of Boy Pick Up. From TV to the big screen, his performance remains funny.
Heussaff proves that she indeed can act and that her acting nominations are no fluke. Far from her socialite image, Heussaff gamely plunges into admittedly low-brow comedy. And she also wears a high-cut bikini in one memorable scene.
Trillo proves his versatility as an actor, playing the annoying "contravida."
Still, one has to admit that many will be watching the movie to learn new pick-up lines. So here are some of them:
Dahon: "Sana ikaw na ang Y."
Neneng B: "Bakit?"
Dahon: "Kasi ikaw na ang kasunod sa 'X' ko."
Boy: "Kape ka ba?"
Boy: "Kasi gusto kitang ma-kape-ling."
Chef Boy Logro: Chef ka ba?
Neneng B: Bakit?
Chef Boy Logro: Kasi gusto kitang maka-relation-CHEF!
Boy Pick-up: Angel taxi ka ba?
Boy Pick up: Ngayon ka lang dumating sa bahay ko. Boom!
Bong Revilla: Bong Ka Ba?
Neneng B: Bakit?
Bong Revilla: Dahil sa iyo ang 'BONG' (puso ko)
