MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-Australian Broadway actor MiG Ayesa praised singer and actress Vina Morales, his co-star in the upcoming local production of the '80s inspired musical “Rock of Ages.”
Ayes, who is reprising his role of Stacee Jaxx, which he played on Broadway and in a US touring company, only has good words for Morales, who is making her stage debut in the musical.
“She's beautiful. This may be controversial but she is one of the best if not the best Sherrie,” Ayesa said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
Morales plays the role of Sherrie Christian, who, when the play opens, just arrived in Los Angeles from Kansas hoping to make it big in Hollywood. She gets a job as a waitress and later on becomes a stripper.
Ayesa said he feels honored to be back in his home country and perform alongside other Filipino artists.
“It's really my honor to do this with Filipino artists this time, they are the best. Now everyone in the world is looking up to Filipino artist,” he said.
Ayesa, however, just laughed off comparisons with Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, who plays Jaxx in the movie version of “Rock of Ages.”
“Mas guwapo [si] Mig Ayesa? I told him I was looking at a mirror image," he said, laughing. "I have a few credits on my own but this is is Tom Cruise and I am a huge fan.”
After “Rock of Ages,” Ayesa will return to London for the Michael Jackson musical “Thriller Live.” – from a report by Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
