MANILA, Philippines – Fresh from her successful US tour, singer-actress Sarah Geronimo is now on her way back to Manila.
Geronimo boarded a Philippine Airline flight Wednesday night (Thursday in Manila) heading back to the Philippines. She even posed with handfuls of fans as she made her way to the airport’s ticket counter.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Geronimo said she is eager to return to the Philippines where she will join Lea Salonga, apl.de.ap and Francisco “Bamboo” Manalac for the Philippine franchise of the reality singing competition “The Voice.”
“I'm thankful to my ABS-CBN family for choosing me to be one of the mentors for ‘The Voice of the Philippines.’ It's an honor maging part ng show and syiempre kasama ko si Ms. Lea Salonga, apl.de.ap and Bamboo so please do watch out for it. Sabay sabay to natin i-discover 'yung 'Voice of the Philippines,'" she said.
“The Voice of the Philippines” is set to air a primer on the show and the coaches this coming Sunday. The show will begin to air the first phase of the competition -- the so-called blind auditions -- on June 15.
The coaches will screen the auditionees with their backs turned to them. Only the voice will be the determining factor in prompting them to push their button and turn their chairs around to signal their intention to recruit the contestant.
In the event that two or more coaches choose a particular artist, they will have to convince the artist to pick them.
The contestants will be trimmed down, however, as "The Voice of the Philippines" start the "Battle Rounds."
After mentoring and training their artists, each coach will pit two of their own team members in a "sing-off." The winning contestants will advance to the next round -- the live performance shows.
"The Voice of the Philippines" will feature as hosts celebrity sisters Toni and Alex Gonzaga, and former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate Robi Domingo. – with a report from Steve Angeles, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau
