MANILA, Philippines -- Star Cinema's "Born to Love You" earned an estimated P29,713,801 in its first five days in theaters, lastest data from the website Box Office Mojo showed.
But the romantic comedy starring singer Angeline Quinto in her movie debut was no match for the Hollywood blockbuster "Snow White and the Huntsman," which was the top-grossing movie in the Philippines for the period May 30 to June 3. The retelling of the classic fairy tale with "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart earned an estimated P41,659,354 on its first weekend.
"Born to Love You," which also stars Coco Martin, played in only 110 screens and bowed at No. 3.
"Men in Black 3" was the week's No. 2 film. It has now grossed P121,299,626 after only two weekends in theaters.
"Born to Love You" is off to a good start. Star Cinema's previous release, "Every Breath U Take," earned a lower P25,517,397 in its first five days in theaters.
The Piolo Pascual-Angelica Panganiban starrer has now grossed an estimated P50,191,540 after three weekends.
"The Avengers," meanwhile, is still raking it in at the box office on its sixth weekend. Already the biggest movie of all-time in the Philippines, the superhero movie has now earned P641,090,286.
The week's other debuts, "Piranha 3DD" and "Gone," came in at No. 4 and No. 8, respectively.
