MANILA - Filipino moviegoers will see Jaclyn Jose's acclaimed performance in Brillante Mendoza's "Ma' Rosa" that earned her a stunning Best Actress win at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
The crime drama will premiere in the Philippines on July 6. Other details have yet to be revealed.
The 52-year-old Jose last month became the first Filipina to win Best Actress at the prestigious film festival for her striking portrayal of a mother who was forced to sell drugs to survive before falling prey to corrupt police.
French director and writer Arnaud Desplechin, who was part of the jury at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, said Jose's performance "broke" his heart.
"I’m at a loss for words! I am so surprised and moved. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the Jury members," said Jose, as she received the award with both Mendoza and her daughter, actress Andi Eigenmann.
