'Aquino & Abunda Tonight' goes SPG for first time
MANILA - Kris Aquino appeared surprised with the SPG (Strong Parental Guidance) rating of "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" during its live telecast on Tuesday.
"Oh my god, we are SPG," Aquino said in the opening minutes of the primetime talk show she co-hosts with Boy Abunda.
The factors marked in the SPG warning onscreen were "T" and "D," which stand for Theme and Drugs, respectively.
Among the issues discussed in the episode of "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" was the controversy surrounding the alleged drug use of One Direction members Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik.
Aquino and Abunda weighed in on the proposal of Laban ng Pamilyang Pilipino, an anti-drug NGO, to prohibit the British boy band to enter the Philippines when it performs in a March 2015 concert here unless its members undergo a drug test.
"Parang selective justice naman ho ata ito," Abunda said.
"Tayo naman dito sa Pilipinas, ang akin lang, huwag naman natin pigilan ang bumibisitang mga artists... Ako, I love their songs, natutuwa ako, kasi magaling sila kumanta at wala naman silang mensahe sa kanilang mga awitin na hindi maganda," he added.
Aquino agreed: "It's not like they're telling their audience na, 'Hoy, mag-droga kayo!'"
Shortly after the episode aired, Filipino fans of One Direction took to Twitter to thank Aquino and Abunda for coming to the defense of the popular boy band, making "#ThankYouKrisAquinoAndBoyAbunda" and "Kris and Boy" trend locally on the micro-blogging site.
Later in the episode, the long-time co-hosts also discussed high-profile inmates the New Bilibid Prison, including convicted drug lords, who are allegedly getting special treatment.
The SPG rating for the episode was a first for "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" since it premiered on primetime last February 10.
