MANILA - Before joining "Pinoy Big Brother," evicted housemate Jacob Benedicto also auditioned for ABS-CBN's "The Voice of the Philippines" but failed to clinch a spot in any of the coaches' teams.
In a live interview on "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" on Monday, the 21-year-old theater actor from Paranaque admitted he was disappointed at first but eventually "took [the failure] as a message from God."
Asked why he thinks he didn't get through, Benedicto answered: "I think it's because I was trying too hard to impress the judges. I was watching the video over and over again. I was forcing the song, I was making the song so big."
Benedicto performed "The Way You Look Tonight" for his Blind Auditions bid.
Meanwhile, Benedicto said he was not surprised when he was evicted from "Pinoy Big Brother: All In" last Saturday, noting the apparent popularity of his fellow nominees.
"I was not [surprised]. I kind of felt... Na-feel ko na malakas si Maris [Racal] kasi ang ganda ng boses niya, ang bait-bait niyang bata. And then si Jane [Oineza], artista na po, so I thought... I woke up that morning, thinking na, 'If this is not for me, God has a plan for me outside the house,'" he said.
The fourth housemate to be evicted from the reality show, Benedicto said he is setting sights on becoming a singer or a TV host, aside from continuing his work on stage.
For now, Benedicto said he intends to finish his studies. He is on his last term as a communication arts student in De La Salle University-Manila.
