MANILA, Philippines – And the winning streak of singers continued on “Pilipinas Got Talent” on Sunday after 13-year-old Roel Manlangit was named winner of the reality show’s fourth season.
Manlangit, who was dubbed “Boy Whitney” after a video of him singing a Whitney Houston song went viral on YouTube, garnered 30% of the vote, while second placer, dancer Frankendal Fabroa, received 26%.
The acoustic trio MP3 Band finished third in the voting.
Since the start of the season, “Pilipinas Got Talent” judges Kris Aquino, Ai Ai delas Alas and Freddie Garcia have been vocal about not having another singer win this year.
But Manlangit. the youngest grand finalist this season, has consistently wowed audiences with his high voice. On Saturday’s final performance show, Manlangit, who lost his home during Typhoon Pablo, sang Bamboo’s “Noypi.”
Fame isn’t new to Manlangit as he first created a buzz online. With more than 2 million views on YouTube and a growing number of local and international fans, the young singer is set to rebuild his family's life with his talent.
Manlangit is the latest singer to win the TV contest, following Jovit Baldovino of Season 1, Marcelino Pomoy of Season 2 and the Maasinhon Trio of Season 3. As winner, he goes home with a P2-million grand prize.
Dance groups D’ Intensity Breakers and Zilent Overload and car drivers Lateral Drift Productions were the other finalists this season.
