MANILA, Philippines – Actress-host Janice de Belen is not open to being friends with her former husband, actor John Estrada.

De Belen on Saturday said she is happy for other former couples who manage to become friends after their separation, but added that the same set-up would not work for her and Estrada, with whom she has four children.
"Ideally, maganda talaga sana kung magiging magkaibigan even after na nag-break kayo or naghiwalay kayo, but what works for other people will not work for me," De Belen said on entertainment talk show "Showbiz Inside Report," which she co-hosts.
"Honest naman ako diyan, hindi naman ako magkukunwaring pwede kaming maging friends, kasi ako mismo, hindi kami pwede maging friends talaga," she added.
De Belen, who legally separated with Estrada in 2001 after almost a decade of married life, admitted nonetheless that she had hoped there would be chance for them to become friends, but with certain conditions.
"There was a time ini-hope ko naman na maging magkaibigan kami, kaya lang marami pa kasing mga bagay-bagay ang hindi maliwanag, not on my part. So siguro 'pag naintindihan niya at matanggap niya na ganu'n ang sitwasyon, baka pwede, magkaibigan lang," she said.
"Kailangan may isang factor na maga-anchor sa inyong dalawa para pwede pa kayo maging magkaibigan. Kung wala, 'wag na," she added.
Estrada, in 1998, headlined noontime show "Magandang Tanghali Bayan," where he was linked to his co-host Vanessa del Bianco. The controversy cost him his marriage to De Belen.
He is now married to his long-time girlfriend former beauty queen Priscilla Meirelles, with whom he has a baby girl.
