MANILA – The lawyer of Claudine Barretto stressed he did not mean to offend the actress’ niece, Daniella, when he made his controversial post on Twitter about the year of the horse.
Last Tuesday, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio posted on Twitter which read: “Year of the Horse nga pala. This could be Danni Barretto’s year…”
Explaining his side on “The Buzz” after Daniella’s mother, Marjorie, asked him what he was insinuating, Topacio said, “Sa isang website, sinasabi na 'yung born on the year of the rooster na 1993, katulad ni Ms. Dani Barretto, this is a good year, yung year of the horse. Hindi ko naman malaman bakit ganoon ang reaksyon.”
According to Topacio, he has nothing personal against Daniella. “Why will I do that? What do I have to gain by that?” he said.
Asked if Claudine has anything to do with his tweet about Daniella, Topacio said, “Wala po, wala. Kung may tumatawag sa kanyang kabayo, hindi ako 'yun.”
Although Topacio feels that he does not owe Daniella and apology, the lawyer said, “Although I feel I have done nothing wrong, I want to assure her that no such offense was meant.”
Meanwhile, Claudine said she is aware of Topacio’s tweet but cannot speak on his behalf.
“Yes, I am aware but I cannot speak for my lawyer. Daniella drew first blood. Siyempre dapat kapag bata ka, hindi ka ganyan, hindi ka bastos. Well sabi niya hindi daw ako ang nagpalaki sa kanya. Eh ‘di hindi. Pero alam niya na masasakit ang mga binitawan niyang mga salita,” she said.
Despite this, Claudine said she also gets hurt when other people call her niece names.
“Nasasaktan din naman ako kapag tinitira siya pero alam mo, hindi na siya bata. I think kailangan din na matuto din siya,” she said.
In spite of Topacio’s explanation, Daniella said she does not believe that the lawyer did not mean to offend her.
“No [I don’t believe he meant well], because a few days ago, my tita came out on TV saying those things about me and then all of a sudden, he’s just going to tweet that?” Daniella said, referring to Claudine’s statements that she is an ungrateful niece.
Daniella feels Topacio should have just stayed away from their family feud.
“I feel like hindi na siya dapat nakisali. I was more of hurt doon sa tweet niya than offended,” she said. “He doesn’t know me personally so what is he trying to say?”
Because of Topacio’s tweet, Daniella said she has been receiving a lot of negative comments online and they are hurting her.
“Yes, I get hurt. Nakaapekto sa akin ng sobra kasi ang daming bashers na sunud-sunod akong bina-bash every day dahil sa tweet niya na 'yun. Every day on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook. I go to school and yung mga tao sa school ko, siyempre active din sila sa social media,” she said.
Despite this, Daniella vowed to come out stronger. “I’m ready because I’m doing this interview to clear my name, na pinalaki ako ng maayos ng nanay ko. She raised me, all of us well. Pinalaki niya ako na may values and may manners,” she said.
