With the announcement being final, Liza Soberano now has to contend with being compared to past actresses who played Darna.
That, of course, means she will be likened to Angel Locsin, who was slated to topbill the upcoming Star Cinema movie about the Pinay superhero before a back injury forced her out.
But while Locsin has already said that she has no regrets in passing the baton, even going so far as to say that she wants to help the new actress effectively portray Darna, some fans are just unfair in their reception towards the "Dolce Amore" star.
Few even resorted to prematurely judging Soberano, saying that she will not be as good as Locsin.
It seems, however, that all the hate were unfounded as even Locsin has told Soberano's talent manager, Ogie Diaz, that she likes the young actress.
"Ever since, wala pa iyong Darna, gustong-gusto na ni Angel si Liza," Diaz said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
Soberano's name has been floating around for quite some time as the possible replacement for Locsin in the Erik Matti film. But it was only on Tuesday that Star Cinema confirmed the rumors.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe, Soberano revealed that she will be undergoing intensive physical training, as well as attending acting and dialogue workshops, for the role.
"I want to look physically strong and capable of doing the stunts," she said.
