MANILA - Coco Martin admitted he avoided hearing news about the first-day performance of "Maybe This Time," his first film co-starring Sarah Geronimo which opened Wednesday.

"Honestly, kahapon talaga ayoko makibalita, kasi kinakabahan ako e, deep inside," Martin told reporters Friday on the sidelines of the taping for his ongoing series "Ikaw Lamang".

Sobrang saya ko, kasi first time ko 'to naranasan!" said Martin, whose film work consists mostly of independently produced projects.

According to co-producer Star Cinema, the Jerry Sineneng-directed film earned P20 million on its first day in over 180 cinemas nationwide.

"Kumbaga, hindi ako makapaniwala," Martin said.

Asked why he thinks "Maybe This Time" is already a hit among moviegoers, Martin said: "Siyempre, maganda 'yung konsepto.

Written by Melai Monge and Anton Santamaria, "Maybe This Time" centers on former sweethearts Tonio (Martin) and Steph (Geronimo) as they cross paths again years after he left her without closure or an explanation.

Steph, who works in a PR firm, is tasked by her boss, Monica (Ruffa Gutierrez), to get Tonio a makeover in time for the opening of a new bar. Matters turn complicated when Steph learns that Tonio and Monica are in a relationship.

On whether there he is open to doing a sequel to "Maybe This Time," considering its success, Martin said, "Excited ako!
