MANILA - The show must go on.
This was the case for actor Vhong Navarro as he faced a live audience on "It's Showtime" Thursday only hours after he was confronted by former pageant contestant Roxanne Cabanero, who has accused him of raping her in 2009.
Navarro appeared cheerful on the noontime program and delivered his usual spiels in its opening minutes. He even joked with his co-hosts about the costumes worn by Ryan Bang and Eric Tai.
In "Sine Mo 'To," Navarro also gamely danced with Billy Crawford and reprised his "X-Men"-inspired role in the impromptu acting segment featuring audience members.
About two hours before the live telecast of "It's Showtime," Navarro had an encounter with Cabanero at the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office, where the last preliminary investigation into a third rape complaint against him was held.
Cabanero, who is not involved in the case, demanded Navarro to face her and attempted to push through security personnel escorting the actor to get close to him.
Upset, Cabanero then threw sunglasses at Navarro.
A number of people at the venue also heckled the actor. "Ikulong 'yang rapist na 'yan! Rapist!" they were heard shouting.
Earlier, while waiting for the hearing to finish, Cabanero was seen sitting beside the grandmother of model Deneice Cornejo, Florencia, who was accompanied by several people wearing shirts with a print that says, "Jail the Rapist."
