MANILA – "I respect you but I don’t respect your opinion."
These were the words of Boy Abunda during the "P.O.V." segment of "The Buzz" Sunday, as he reacted to the statements made by the father of GlobalPort cager Terrence Romeo in connection with the issue hurled at the basketball player and comedian Vice Ganda.
Romeo has been linked to the "It's Showtime" co-host since his stint in the UAAP as a player for the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, which Vice Ganda has been vocal of supporting as an alumnus of the school.
In an interview with Spin.ph last week, the older Romeo came to the defense of his son following allegations that the cager supposedly received expensive gifts from Vice Ganda, including a condominium unit and a car.
"Walang katotohanan 'yun," he told Spin.ph.
Romeo's father added that he believes the 21-year-old cager when he says he never had a relationship with Vice Ganda.
That’s unfair. That’s totally unfair at nakakasakit po ‘yan sa amin. Ang sakit pakinggan," he added.
As to the gifts allegedly given by Vice Ganda to Romeo, Abunda said, "'Yung tungkol sa mga condominium units, Hummer, so what kung magbibigay ka? Bakit, ninakaw ba ni Vice Ganda 'yan?"
It was last May 9 when Vice Ganda first hinted about the end of his relationship through a series of posts on Twitter. "It is over," he said in one tweet.
Another tweet read, "i TRied but im TiRed. time To Rest." This had fans of the comedian speculating on the apparent hints in the capitalization of the letters, with a number asking if the initials "TR" pertained to Romeo.
Romeo already denied that he was in a relationship with Vice Ganda.
The "It’s Showtime" host, for his part, stressed that he never mentioned Romeo’s name in any of his interviews.
"Never akong nagpangalan. I never clarified, I never admitted, I never confirmed anything. I never said na we were together, wala akong tahasang direktang sinabing Terrence Romeo at wala akong masamang sinabi sa kanya. I will never say anything ill about him," he said.
Although he admits that he is not doing okay amid this issue, Vice Ganda reiterated he will not say anything negative about Romeo or his dad.
