MANILA, Philippines – Award-winning actor Jiro Manio voluntarily entered a rehabilitation facility last March for using drugs.
In an interview with “Showbiz News Ngayon” (SNN), Manio’s father Andrew confirmed the report.
“Nagte-taping pa siya ng 'Tayong Dalawa.' Bumibigay na ang career niya kasi napapabarkada tapos hanggang sa gumagamit na siya ng hindi tamang gamot,” he said.
Although Manio was led astray, Andrew said he’s happy to know that his son is dedicated to making himself better.
“Daddy, bahala ka na muna sa anak ko, sa asawa ko. Kapag gumaling ako at nakabalik ako ng showbiz, hanap ulit tayo ng bahay sama sama ulit tayo doon,” Andrew said.
Manio has a daughter by a non-showbiz partner.
Manio’s mentor in show business, director Maryo J. Delos Reyes, said he believes the actor could still make a comeback in the industry.
“Hindi naman siguro mawawalan ng proyekto iyan dahil tulad din naman ng ibang mga artista natin na nanggaling din doon, bigyan natin ng pagkakataon dahil ang talino hindi naman nawawala eh. The industry has always a space for talented people,” he said.
Aside from Manio, actress-politician Cita Astals also shared her story on her way to recovery.
Astals was diagnosed with a mood disorder and she just got out of the hospital recently.
Previous reports have it that Astals was seen a number of times lost in the streets of Manila.
“Ang dami daming issue na lumabas. Hindi na ako natutulog. I was sleeping like 2 or 3 hours a day. Feeling ko kung bakit hindi na lang ako pinapatay dito ng husto eh,” she said.
She told SNN, however, that with the help of her close friends and family, she is ready to take on a new chapter of her life and start anew.
“I’m rebuilding my life from scratch. Wala akong bahay, wala akong kotse. I will be working for a water company and hopefully sa showbiz. Namimiss ko. Kaya gusto ko sana makabalik,” she said.
