MANBILA -- For the second straight year, the combined efforts of Kapamilya stars got outshined by the sun.
Sun Life Financial took the Sun vs. Stars basketball exhibition game against the Star Magic All-Stars, 83-76, at the Celebrity Sports Plaza Sunday during the annual Star Magic Games.
In a fierce battle, a reinforced team of Sun employees just came out a little better against our favorite Kapamilya stars.
Robbie Herndon dropped 30 points to lead Sun Life to victory, overcoming a huge effort from the Star Magic side led by Gerald Anderson, JC De Vera and Xian Lim.
Former PBA player Vince Hizon coached Sun for the win.
Anderson, who scored 30 himself, got Star Magic to within three points, 76-79, after sinking a final three-pointer in the last 16 seconds.
However, he missed a second one in the ensuing possession that could have cut the lead to two.
Still, Anderson was named MVP for the Star Magic side despite the loss and he immediately deflected the credit to the other team.
"Ang ganda ng laro natin, thank you guys. Sa Sun Life, thank you for being part of this great day, sobrang ito yung mga araw na talagang inaabangan ko," Anderson said.
"To my teammates, you guys are the true champions, of course Sun Life is, but thank you guys. Maraming salamat," he added.
Ronnie Alonte of the Hashtags was named rookie of the year in the exhibition games.
The Hashtags-formed Captain America Blue lost a narrow 69-70 decision to the Black Widow team led by teen king Danie Padilla in the other featured game.
The annual event was sponsored by Sun Life financial and had other sports played like volleyball, badminton and even swimming.
