MANILA, Philippines -- President Benigno Aquino III is among those who have expressed support for comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas, one of his sisters said on Tuesday.
Host-actress Kris Aquino said during her morning talk show, "Kris TV," that delas Alas, who recently separated from her husband amid allegations of physical abuse, asked her to thank the President for showing his support to her.
"Ai Ai told me na mag-thank you daw ako dahil she failed to do it on 'The Buzz,'" Kris said, referring to the comedienne's interview last Sunday. "[Sabi niya] 'Friendship, sabihin mo thank you kay brother President.' Kasi she is really close to our family."
"Sa gitna ng bilangan, Noy was even texting her and asking her kung kamusta na siya, at kung may kailangan pa siya," the host-actress added.
Kris said that just like many Filipinos, her family is pained at seeing delas Alas suffer.
"Mahal na mahal namin si Ai Ai. It just broke my heart to see her in so much pain. Ang nangyari kasi ...maraming nalaman in that course of one month," she said, referring to delas Alas' short-lived marriage to businessman Jed Salang.
On "The Buzz," delas Alas accused Salang of physically abuse. She said she decided to leave him last May 2 after a violent confrontation.
The two got married in Las Vegas last April 3.
Delas Alas also tearfully said she believes Salang never loved her.
