MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The dream is still alive for Jessica Sanchez as the Filipino-Mexican-American singer is still in the running to become the next “American Idol.”

Sanchez will face off with Phillip Phillips in the “Idol” finale following the elimination of Joshua Ledet on Thursday (Friday morning in Manila).
This is the longest run for any contestant of Filipino descent on “Idol.”
Social networks were saturated with celebratory posts, with topics “Jessica and Phillip,” "Jessica Sanchez," "Top 2" and "Jessica is the Next AI" taking over the local and international trending topics list on Twitter.
Celebrities, politicians and public personalities also tweeted praises for Sanchez.
Singer Martin Nievera said: “Wow!!! this is the highest the Philippine flag has been raised on American Idol! Way to go Jessica!!!!”
Journey's frontman Arnel Pineda, for his part, said: “Congrats to @JSanchezAI11 for making it into the finale of AI...good luck...you have our support!!”
Music icon Jim Paredes of the Apo Hiking Society also tweeted his support for the 16-year-old singer.
Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño even posted a picture of him with a “Go Jessica” signboard.
OFW advocate Susan Ople said Phillips better be ready for Sanchez’s best. “Oh Phillip Phillips! You with the redundant name! Be prepared for the best of Jessica! And the nimble texting fingers of Pinoys in the US,” she said.
ABS-CBN anchor Karen Davila, on the other hand, quipped that the excitement over Sanchez would probably eclipse even national issues next week.
“Ang hirap ng ka-kumpetisyon ni CJ Corona next week...si @JSanchezAI11 Wonder what everyone will be talking about more,” she tweeted.
Prosecution panel spokesperson Erin Tañada, meanwhile, said Sanchez has already won the Filipinos over with her amazing talent. “Beyond being the next American Idol, she already won us over as our Pinoy Idol. Mabuhay ka, @JSanchezAI11! Good luck in the finals!”
Defense panel spokesperson Karen Jimeno also said she will be crossing her fingers for the first "FilAm American Idol."
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte lauded Sanchez, saying she inspires Filipinos to pursue excellence.
Vice President Jejomar Binay also congratulated Sanchez and thanked Filipinos who voted for her, saying the support they gave is proof of the bayanihan spirit.
