Angel Locsin and Luis Manzano
MANILA - Actor-host Luis Manzano said he is giving himself two months to decide if he will run for public office in 2016.
Manzano is the son of Batangas governor Vilma Santos, who also started out in show business.
"Ang sabi ko nga maybe, maybe. There's no guarantee. Maybe in two months ay mapag-uusapan na namin. I go to people, ask for advice and figure out if it's time for me to serve. So kung baga, I'm very curious na rin what the future has in store in terms of me being able to serve or if I should," he said in an interview during the press conference of ABS-CBN's "The Voice Kids," where he is one of the hosts.
While he has yet to decide if he will enter politics, Manzano said he has already asked his girlfriend, "The Legal Wife" star Angel Locsin, if she is open to being his "first lady."
"Ako ang nagtanong kay Kiti (Locsin). Very lightly I asked her, 'okay lang ba sa iyo maging first lady kung sakali?' Tapos tumatawa lang siya. So I guess that is something good, hopefully," he said.
Meanwhile, Manzano made it clear that his mother did not convince him to consider being a politician.
"They never influenced me, they never imposed na, 'anak, tumakbo ka.' O huwag kang tumakbo. [Ang sabi lang nila] 'Kung ano ang gagawin mo, make sure you are well-equipped.' For example, if you want to run, you have to study, you have to be there.
"Ako, I have no plans of relying on my last name, my parents' name. Sabi nila, if you want something, you have to learn. You have to study kagaya ni Mommy," he said.
When asked why he is thinking of pursuing politics, Manzano said: "I think we are all put on this earth to serve, whether we serve God or serve others. It's very hard to live just for yourself."
