MANILA, Philippines -- Following his prolonged absence from noontime variety program "It's Showtime," actor-host Vhong Navarro revealed the reason for his absence on the show for almost a month.
Navarro, who resumed hosting duties on "It's Showtime" this week, said he suffered from an infection after undergoing preventive surgery for his appendix.
"Sabi ng doctor pwede raw pumasok, kaya lang parang uncomfortable. Tinanggal 'yung appendix, [pero] hindi siya pumutok, naagapan. 'Yun lang after ng operation, nagkaroon ng infection," Navarro explained on Tuesday in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
The dancing host shared he almost suffered a "depression" from not being able to join the program, as he has become accustomed to it since it started in 2009.
"Nade-depress na nga ako noong nanonood ko sa bahay, na-miss ko 'yung madlang people. Hindi ako makasama, pero nami-miss ko 'yung makapag-pasaya eh, parang feeling ko 'yun rin 'yung medicine ko," Navarro said.
Meanwhile, Navarro is also gearing up for an upcoming film with actress Angel Locsin.
The Star Cinema project has been in the planning stage for a long time, Navarro said, adding that he hopes it will finally push through.
"Matagal ko nang gusto mangyari 'yun. Sana matuloy na, kasi maganda 'yung storya," Navarro said.
Aside from the film's story, Navarro said he is also excited to star with Locsin on the big screen.
"Si Angel, napakagaling na artista eh, kasi kahit saan mo 'yan isabak -- action, comedy, drama, kaya niya, ang daming pwede magawa," he said.
In addition to his duties as co-host of "It's Showtime," Navarro is also part of the weekly sitcom "Toda Max," where he stars alongside Locsin and action star Robin Padilla.
