MANILA - Director Zack Snyder has revealed on Tuesday a black and white photo of Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight, alongside his new Batmobile, for the upcoming sequel to "Man of Steel."
The 48-year-old made good with his promise when he teased that he will pull the tarp on the Batmobile, but surprised everyone when he also included a first look at the movie's caped crusader.
The live-action film, dubbed by many as "Batman vs Superman," will see two of the most popular superheroes in comic history appear on the big screen for the first time.
British actor Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman for the feature, with Gal Cadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and Ryan Fisher as Cyborg all expected to make an appearance.
Comic books fans react
The first photo, with Affleck standing next to his Batmobile, earned a surprising positive reaction given the skepticism many displayed since the casting announcement.
There was even a petition on Change.org, which has earned more than 90,000 signatures, urging Warner Bros to replace the actor with one that has a more "intimidating" stage presence.
Many pointed out the costume's resemblance to the Batman of the 1986 comic book series, "The Dark Night Returns," written by Frank Miller.
The series, widely considered by comic book fans as a classic Batman story, portrayed the caped crusader as a 55-year-old who was nearing the end of his crime-fighting career.
The film is scheduled to hit the Philippines on May 4, 2016.
