MANILA, Philippines - After criticizing her work as a personal assistant to her parents, ace comedian Vice Ganda publicly congratulated Nancy Binay for being one of the frontrunners in the senatorial race.
Vice Ganda, one of the country's most popular personalities with his blockbuster films and over 2.7 million Twitter followers, praised the unofficial Top 5 senatorial bets in the May 13 elections, which include Binay.
Leading in the senatorial race, based on the partial and unofficial results from the Commission on Elections' transparency server, is Grace Poe, followed by Loren Legarda, Alan Peter Cayetano, and Francis "Chiz" Escudero.
Binay is in fifth place with more than 11 million votes as of 12:43 p.m.
"Congratulations sa numbers 1 to 5 na nangunguna sa mga senador. Congratulations sa inyong lahat. Ang bongga niyo talaga," Vice Ganda said on "It's Showtime" as his co-hosts sing Binay's campaign Jingle.
The comedian then told Binay: "Ms. Nancy, pakain ka naman!"
In the end, Vice Ganda encouraged the public to support the country's next leaders even if they did not vote for them.
"Ang eleksyon papatapos na, kaya 'yung nangyari dati ay tapusin natin," he said, referring to his earlier criticism of Binay.
"Panahon na para magsuportahan, ganyan naman dapat," he added. "Sa eleksyon ay maaaring magkaiba-iba tayo ng opinyon, pero kapag natapos at may nahalal na, ang sambayanan, ang mamamayan at pamahalaan ay dapat may kasunduan at pagtutulungan para sa buong bayan."
In a previous interview, Binay said she was not hurt with Vice Ganda's remarks, saying that she has 20 years of "on-the-job training" under her father, vice president Jejomar Binay.
Last week, the comedian said he is going to vote for Risa Hontiveros, who failed to make it to the Top 12 in the senatorial race.
