MANILA - Manila Mayor Joseph "Erap" Estrada said he only wishes happiness for his daughter, Jerika Ejercito, despite apparent reservations about her welcoming a new baby with actor Bernard Palanca.
The former president spoke exclusively with ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual during the grand re-opening of the historic Luneta Hotel in Manila over the weekend.
Asked how he feels to be a new grandfather, Estrada said, "I've been a grandfather many times already. Marami namang anak si Jinggoy."
Estrada was referring to his son, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, who has four children with wife Precy. Jinggoy is one of Estrada's three children with former senator Loi Ejercito.
Jerika, meanwhile, is the only daughter of Estrada with former actress Laarni Enriquez. They have two other children -- Jake and Jacob.
Reacting specifically to Isaiah Joseph, Jerika's first child with Palanca, Estrada said, "Okay, welcome to the family."
"No choice! No choice!" he quipped, laughing, when asked if everything is fine following Isaiah's birth.
Estrada added, referring to Jerika: "I hope she'll be happy. That's my prayer, always, that she'll be happy. Let's all hope [she'll be happy]."
Jerika and Palanca welcomed Isaiah last May 7. Among the first to visit the baby were Jerika's siblings, Jake and Jacob, and Enriquez.
Palanca also has a child with former partner, actress Meryll Soriano, both of whom joined in welcoming Isaiah over the weekend.
