A beauty queen from Negros Occidental was crowned Miss Philippines-Earth 2009 late Sunday night, May 10.
Sandra Seifert, a Filipina-German model, bested more than 40 other candidates to win the pageant. She will represent the Philippines for the Miss Earth 2009 pageant this coming October.
The beauty pageant was held at the Arena Entertainment and Recreational Center of the People in San Juan City and aired over ABS-CBN Channel 2.
It will be recalled that Seifert was disqualified by Binibining Pilipinas when she posed sexy for a men's magazine.
Aside from Seifert, Grezilda Adelantar was named Miss Phillipines Eco Tourism; Miss Philippines Fire is Patricia Marie Tumulak from Quezon City; Miss Philippines Air is Michelle Martha Braun of Aklan and Miss Philippines Water is Catherin Loyola of Sydney, Australia.
The Miss Earth-Philippines is a beauty pageant held annually to search for the the most beautiful and environmental-friendly woman in the country.
Miss Philippines-Earth is said to be the largest and most widely participated beauty pageant in the Philippines with 50 official candidates participating for 2009. Miss Earth-Philippines titleholders dedicate their year to promote environmental projects and to address issues concerning the environment.
The winners also serve as the spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme and other environmental organizations.
