'Iron Man 3' earns P500M in just two weeks
MANILA, Philippines – The latest installment in Marvel’s “Iron Man” series is on track to become the top-grossing movie in the Philippines of all time as it crossed the P500-million mark after just two weeks in theaters.
According to latest data from website Box Office Mojo, “Iron Man 3” has earned a whopping P503,477,272 in just two weeks after it added P140,177,812 to its total during the May 1-5 period.
The superhero movie starring Robert Downey Jr. dominated the local box office, occupying 303 screens. The period’s No. 2 movie, “One Piece Film Z,” took in only P5,184,270 from 42 screens.
With no strong competition this weekend, “Iron Man 3” could easily pass “Marvel's The Avengers” as the country's top-grossing movie of all time, which earned an estimated P590 million during its entire run last year.
“Iron Man 3” has already broken several box office records since it opened locally on April 24. It debuted to a stunning P62.6 million – the biggest first-day gross ever in Philippine history, foreign or local film.
From then on, the film never looked back – smashing single-day records one after another, specifically, biggest Thursday (P48 million), Friday (P48.41 million), Saturday (P71.94 million) and Sunday (P74.63 million). All previous records were established last year by “The Avengers.”
“Iron Man 3” grossed P305.96 million in its first five days for the biggest opening weekend ever in the country and the fastest time to reach the P300-million mark.
