Actor Zoren Legaspi
MANILA - Actor Zoren Legaspi expressed his willingness to cooperate in the investigation into a tax evasion complaint filed against him by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday.
In a statement given to ABS-CBN News, Legaspi stressed that he was not trying to avoid paying taxes.
"Sang-ayon po ako na ang tamang buwis ay dapat bayaran para sa ikakaunlad ng bayan," he said. "I'm more than willing to comply and cooperate to assess my tax liabilities. Aalamin po namin kung saan kami nagkamali."
He added: "I'm glad that BIR is investigating. That means they are doing their job. I love my country kaya I will never attempt to evade any taxes. I just need to figure out kung saan kami nagkamali (without malice) and I'm waiting lang po sa official letter ng BIR."
According to BIR Commissioner Kim Henares, Legaspi underdeclared his income for the taxable years 2010 and 2012 by declaring only P6.79 million in 2010, and P1.82 million in 2012.
"He substantially underdeclared his income tax by 42% in 2010 and 256% in 2012. We are assessing him with total income tax liability for taxable years 2010 and 2012 for total of P4.45 million," Henares said.
Legaspi, who is married to actress Carmina Villaroel, was last seen in a regular TV program in ABS-CBN's "Showbiz Inside Report" in 2013 as a co-host.
