Singer Geneva Cruz has posed naked in the May issue of a men’s magazine in her effort to raise public awareness on animal and environmental protection.

Cruz, a self-confessed vegetarian, said she agreed to pose sexy for Maxim Philippines after the staff of the magazine accepted her condition, i.e. for the shoot to reflect her beliefs.

A nude Cruz posed at the Ninoy Aquino National Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City, with only leaves covering her private parts.

The former member of the legendary “Smokey Mountain” added that she was the one who came up with the “sexy jungle” theme to also show her environmentalist side.

"I wasn't gonna pose sexy just to pose sexy. It has to be for a cause. I'm an environmentalist. I mean, I'm not perfect. I do drink, things like that… But I do what I can, anything I can do to save the planet, I will do. I'm a vegan as well. And that helps," Cruz told Maxim.

Cruz, a member of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), decided to become a vegetarian after doing a shampoo commercial in Palawan. She said she was only 15 years old then.

"We were in this location in Palawan where all the animals were just roaming free! All I had to do was feed one of them and say, 'Natural!' We kept doing that, take after take,” she said.

“People eat all sorts of things now, dogs, cats, whatever. And I just, I couldn't take it anymore. Not after that,” she added.
Cruz, 33, is the wife of former veejay KC Montero. She has a13-year-old son, Heaven, from her first marriage. She used to be married to musician Paco Arespacochaga.
