MANILA – Boy Abunda has decided that he will not venture into politics in 2016.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Wednesday, Abunda said his mother needs him “more now than at any other point in our lives together.”
“Kasi dati in one of my interviews, I was saying I was open. Ngayon hindi muna. Balik muna ako sa pag-aalaga sa aking pinakamamahal na nanay,” he said. “She's doing very well but ito yung mga panahon na para sa akin, kailangan na even if we don't talk as much, gusto ko nakikita niya ako at nakikita ko siya.”
Abunda admitted the “context of politics” also made him think twice about running.
“Naguguluhan ako sa mga kaganapan sa ating bayan in the context of politics. Pangatlo, siguro I'm just too happy in what I do,” he said.
The award-winning host, however, said he will not close his doors on any possibility.
“But I'm not closing my doors. Anything is possible, not just in politics. Who knows? I'm open to the possibilities of anything -- to be a dancer, or a singer, or an actor,” he said in jest.
The "Aquino & Abunda” host first revealed in the run-up to the 2013 midterm polls that he was considering a run for the gubernatorial post in his home province of Eastern Samar in 2016.
He, however, announced at a forum in the University of the Philippines in January that he is no longer entertaining thoughts of running for public office anytime soon.
