MANILA (UPDATED) - Cedric Lee and Simeon Raz, two of 5 people facing trial for serious illegal detention of actor Vhong Navarro, don't want to be detained at the Taguig City Jail.
The Taguig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 271, on Tuesday, suspended the transfer of Lee and Raz to Taguig City Jail after they filed a motion for continuing detention at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) main office in Manila due to security reasons, according to Prosecutor General Claro Arellano.
Lee and Raz raised this in today's hearing at the Taguig RTC.
In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News over the weekend, Raz said being detained at the NBI "would be the preference, kasi mahirap naman, baka mamaya 'yung mga tao diyan (city jail inmates), kuyugin kami for no reason dahil akala nila kami ang masasamang tao."
"It's unfair naman sa amin, especially to our families, na something bad will happen to us, just because we are being made to look like... We're being demonized," he added. "It's unfair, really. Kaya nga kami nag-voluntary surrender sa NBI because we trust the NBI. We still believe in them."
Taguig RTC Branch 271 Presiding Judge Paz Esperanza Cortes set a hearing on May 6 on Lee and Raz's plea for for their continued detention at the NBI, after which she will rule on their motion.
However, the arraignment of the two will proceed, as scheduled, tomorrow, April 30, at 1:30 pm.
Lee and Raz were arrested on Saturday in Eastern Samar and were brought to the NBI in Manila on Sunday. -- reports from Ina Reformina and Carolyn Bonquin, ABS-CBN News
