MANILA, Philippines -- TV host Kris Aquino on Thursday weighed in on the feud between the Barretto siblings and their mother Inday.
On Wednesday, Inday Barretto issued a statement through entertainment journalist Ricky Lo calling daughter Gretchen Barretto a liar and accusing her of pulling down younger sister Claudine. The recent feud stemmed from Claudine reportedly blocking niece Julia Barretto's career in show business.
Julia is the daughter of Marjorie Barretto and Dennis Padilla.
In her morning show "KrisTV," Aquino, who worked with Claudine in hit movie "Sukob" in 2006, said she saw how Claudine brought her nieces, including Julia, to the set.
"When we were doing 'Sukob', although that was way back 2006, noong nagshu-shooting kami at nagpi-pictorial si Julia at si Claudia, sumasama talaga kay Claudine eh. So alam ko na super close sila while those children were growing up," Aquino told guest co-host John Lapus.
"So ang hirap paniwalaan na ang lahat ng ito ay nag-simula doon sa pangba-bash kay Julia. Parang naa-accuse na nanggagaling kay Claudine. Of course, ang tagal-tagal na noon pero sa nakita ko ay mahal na mahal niya ang bata," Aquino added.
Aquino, who also worked with Gretchen on a commercial, said she also knows the socialite-actress to be "so prayerful."
"Kaya ako nagtataka kasi Gretchen prays the rosary, every time, talagang two to three times a day, she goes to Baclaran. May devotion. Nagsisimba, parang very solid ang relationship with God. Ako naman feeling ko kung madasalin kang tao, yung ina-accuse sa iyo na may sisiraan kang kapatid, hindi bagay doon sa nakita ko, for myself na napakamadasalin ngayon. I'm sure since madasalin siya ino-honor niya ang Ten Commandments. Hindi ba the fourth commandment is 'honor your mother and your father?'" Aquino said.
Aquino noted the public feud must be difficult for the other members of Barretto family, who are not from showbiz.
"Nakakaawa silang lahat, lalo na the other members of the family who are not involved in the gulo. For example, si Daddy Mike. Ano kaya ang pakiramdam niya na lahat ng ito ay naglabasan? If you think also, what prompted the brother (Joaquin) to speak and to make it public? Kasi pwede na lang tumawag siya sa nanay niya na 'mom, please stop na.' Pero the fact na mayroong lumabas, hindi natin alam kung ano ang dynamics nila at pinagdadaanan ng pamilya," Aquino told Lapus.
"Nagulat lang din ako sa statement ni Mommy Inday kasi sobrang tapang at sobrang madetalye. Siguro sometimes kasi hindi mo mahe-help na kapag nakita mo na may isa kang anak na helpless, you will really go to the full extent to try to help that child. Pero tayong lahat medyo nagulat na in helping one child parang itinakwil ang isang anak," she said.
"Late pinanganak si Clau, alam ko na her mom was already in her 40s. So I'm saying na at this point na sa mid-70s na si Mommy Inday. 'Yung sana sa last year of their lives eh ini-enjoy na nila ang pamilya at mga apo. So ang sad na ang lahat ng ito ay nangyari," Aquino said.
Aquino also said she commended Gretchen for choosing not to comment to Lo at this time amid the accusations from the Barretto matriarch.
"Smetimes that's the most prudent thing to do na kung ikaw you are in a middle of a battle (is to) step back and let it die down muna," the host said.
Like Gretchen, Claudine also chose to keep her silence, saying she will make a statement at the right time.
The feud between the Barrettos was discussed during the "Hot Topic" segment of "KrisTV," and Aquino hoped that the rift can still be fixed.
"It just proved also that we have an endless fascination with Barretto sisters, hindi ba? Not just the sisters but the next generation. Siguro ang lahat naman ng bagay ay nagtatapos, so itong hidwaan na ito, itong gulo na ito, we can all pray for them and look forward na sana ay mag-reconcile silang lahat at magtulungan," Aquino ended.
