Fantaserye widens lead in nationwide ratings
MANILA - A heartbreaking scene in "Mirabella" wherein the titular character is pranked in a "freak show" generated buzz online Wednesday, making it a top trending topic on Twitter.
In the April 23 episode of the primetime series, Mira (Julia Barretto) is invited by Terrence (Sam Concepcion) to a party organized by his friends.

Unknown to Mira, however, the event is an elaborate prank wherein Terrence and his friends are each bringing an "ugly" date. The "ugliest" to arrive at the so-called freak show will get a special prize -- becoming the target of water guns.
The clueless Mira, who has been bullied in school due to her wood-like skin, is overjoyed to be part of the event, as she never expected to be asked out by the campus heartthrob.
The party ends with Mira being crowned the "ugliest," and the target of ridicule of all those in attendance.
As the scene aired, "Mirabella" zoomed up as a top trend on Twitter, with the episode's official hashtag, "#MirabellaTheFreakShow," peaking as the No. 1 topic in the Philippines and No. 2 worldwide.
The strong buzz surrounding the show online is reflected in its nationwide viewership, as measured by Kantar Media using a panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes.
This week, "Mirabella" remained the No. 1 show in its time slot, despite facing new competition. The ABS-CBN series registered national TV ratings of 20.5% on Monday and 19.6% on Tuesday, while its rival program aired on GMA-7 only got 11% and 12.1% on the same days.
Directed by Erick Salud, Jerome Pobocan, and Jojo Saguin, "Mirabella" airs weeknights after "Meteor Garden" during ABS-CBN's primetime block.
