MANILA – Sam Concepcion is thrilled that the country's "Mr. Pure Energy," Gary Valenciano, sees him as his "heir apparent."
Valenciano told "Buzz ng Bayan" host Boy Abunda that among the stars of this generation, Concepcion has a style that makes him stand out.
“Even Paolo, my son, siya 'yung nag-direct ng concert ni Sam Concepcion sa Music Museum. Sa press conference, he told the media, 'I've seen Sam Concepcion do things I've only seen my dad do.' So it's not just the performance but also the way he was," he said.
Also speaking to Abunda on Sunday, Concepcion said it is an honor to receive such good words from the person who he looks up to.
"Hindi ko alam kung paano ko ite-take yun. I'm just so thankful to Tito Gary and to the Valencianos. Iba 'yung feeling na the person who you look up to as an artist, as a person na if you do it right, you work hard enough, [you're going to be my heir apparent]. Medyo pressure," he said.
"Sabi ko nga po I think no one's going to be the next Gary Valenciano. Pero sabi niya, 'Hindi. If you work hard enough, if you manage your career well, you'll be able to.' Inspiring talaga," he said.
Reacting to comments by other people that he is the Justin Bieber of the Philippines, Concepcion said: "Hindi ko alam kung paano tatanggapin 'yun kasi iba 'yung scene natin dito, iba 'yung musika natin. He is accomplished pero I want to make a name for myself."
Concepcion started in showbiz when he joined the singing competition "Little Big Star" and won.
Since then, Concepcion has scored a number of studio albums as well as acting and hosting stints.
